He asked something that he does not understand to the teacher. After that, he wrote his work in whiteboard. When he almost finished his work in white board, the teacher told him that there was one mistake about determining stationary point. Then, he revised it well.
3.
Bella
XI Social 3
April, 10th 2012. Bela sat in front. Actually, she did anything like her friends did. She listened to teacher’s explanation and she solved the problems seriously. The teacher always approached her to guide her in solving the problems because she got the lowest score in mid-test. The teacher ask question when there were some mistake in her work.

April, 10th 2012. Hans sat in front of teacher’s desk. He got high score for his mid-test. He did his work by himself without seeing his chair mate’s work. If there was something that he does not understand, he asked to his teacher.

Summary of records:  Every student in that class pays attention and listened to teacher’s explanation. They obeyed all of teacher’s rules. If teacher asked them to solve problems, then they do it seriously. Teacher really cares to all of his students. He approached all of students who still have not understood yet about the topic. There was no student who made the class noisy.

Reflection of UET
SMA Santa Theresia

In this semester, I should go to a school named SMA Santa Theresia to have school experience.  As in the previous semester, it is a Catholic School; I should be a teacher assistant and do team teaching there. The difference is about the limited of time. In the previous semester, I have two weeks to be in the school, but in this semester, I just have seven days to be in the school because of Easter Day. It was one of obstacles that I had there.  I have not taught in that school yet until now. I just did observation there because I should teach there in the third week.
When the first time I came to that school, I was amazed with the school, especially with the class. This school is different and unique with another school. All of class is opened class. It has no door and no window. My master teacher said that it makes teacher easy to control their students from outside and inside. I did not understand about what my master teacher said because I thought that opened class make us hard to control our students. I thought that the students will not be easy to pay attention to teacher’s explanation.
I did observation in XI Sains 2. In XI Sains 2, I cannot enter the class because this class was too small, so my master teacher asked me to observe outside. It made me hard to observe the class. Even it made me so hard to see what was going on in the class. Before I observed that class, my teacher had told me that Sains Class is really serious in studying. That is why I was not surprised at that time. The students were really serious in listening and paying attention to teachers. They did all of problems that teacher gave well. My master teacher can control and manage the class well. He knew what he should do to his students. He had loud and clear voice in that opened class, so that his students can listen what he said clearly.
There was one thing that I salute to my master teacher. He really mastered the material. He can explain the material to his students clearly. He gave challenging problems to his students. By those challenging problems, he can measure his students’ understanding.
After I observed the class, I talked to my master teacher.
“What do you think about opened class?”, asked my master teacher.
“Unique, Mister. It is different with another school”, I said.
“Which one do you like between teaching in opened class and closed class? Why?”, asked him again.
“I like teaching in closed class because I think teaching in closed class is easier than teaching in opened class, Mister. I can control and manage my class well in closed class. But if I should teach here, it will be one of challenge for me and it will be the nicest experience I will have”, answered me.
“No matter how the classroom is, you should enjoy in teaching. Understand the material and prepare all of things, you can control and manage your students well. Instead of that, experience is great teacher for the next generation like you”, explained him.
Now I understand why he said that it is easy to control the students in opened class. In opened class, we can know what our students do in outside. We also can know what our students do in inside if we are in outside. I really agree with my master teacher said. No matter how the classroom is, whether it is closed class or opened class, I should enjoy in teaching. Instead of that, as a teacher we should understand the material deeply. If we understand the material, we can use any methods to make the learning process interesting. I do agree that experience is the best teacher that we have. By having experiences, we can know how to face our students which have different background each other.

How to Graph Quadratic Function
Talking about drawing graphic of quadratic function is not different with drawing graphic of linear function. Actually, it is almost same, but in quadratic function, we should be more paying our attention because there are some additional steps that are different with linear function. The basic difference between graphic of linear function and graphic of quadratic function is the line. In linear function, the graph forms a straight line, but in quadratic function, the graph forms a curve line or we called it as “parabola”. Now, we will talk about how to graph quadratic function as shown below.

Mathematics is an arrow when I get lost in real life

  Created by: Wirmandi Pamungkas

“Mathematics is the most difficult subject in school”. That was the first statement about mathematics that I have heard. Many people around me also said that people should remember so many formulas if they want to solve mathematics problems easily. When I was in elementary school, I did not realize whether I have liked mathematics or not. At that time, I had no passion at all to learn mathematics deeply, but I also did not think that I hate mathematics. I just did all of problems without any serious difficulties.

In the seventh grade, the statement of “Mathematics is the most difficult subject in school” really affected my perception about mathematics. My teacher made me more confusing in understanding the concept. She did not care all of her students. She just cared to smart students. She always asked smart students to answer all of questions and did not give a chance for other students. I did not mean to blame her, but I realize that I started to hate mathematics at this time. I always got bad score in every test of mathematics. I did not understand about supplement and complement angle. Even I should do remedial until three times for one test about measuring angles.

I remember that I started to love mathematics when I was in the eighth grade. I was taught by humorous teacher, Miss Wiwik. She gave us games of mathematics. She made mathematics more interesting for me. She really changed my perception about mathematics. She really cared to all of her students. She always gave a chance to all of student to answer the questions in front of class. I remember that I cannot answer the problems of function, and then she guided me to understand it slowly. She motivated me that I can understand mathematics easily if I want. Then, I tried to get the highest score in the first test. Finally, I got a hundred for it. My teacher told it to every class. Suddenly, I became famous because of it. It motivated me to get good score in every test of mathematics.

The next thing is I always did my best in every test of mathematics. I was chosen as representative of my school to join the competition of mathematics in junior and senior high school. I became confidence because I have remembered all of formulas for it, but it seemed so difficult because I was asked to solve real life problems, but after the competition has ended, my teacher explained me the answer. It was not that difficult if we know the pattern. Then, I realized that mathematics is not only about how you good in remembering formulas or how you good in calculating the complex numbers, it tells me anything to be applied into the real life.

My teacher also asked me to be tutor of my friends for facing National Exam of High School.  It was really kind of great appreciation. At that time, national exam is not the only one that I should focus on. I should focus to university life, what university or major that I should choose. When I became a tutor, I find something confidence in explaining mathematics. It made me more confidence when my friends can understand about what I explained. I started to think mathematics as a major that I should choose in university. Then, I registered myself to join test of addition students like UMB and Sampoerna School of Education (SSE). I took mathematics, I failed in UMB, but I got scholarship in SSE. It was like a dream that I do not dreamed before.

In SSE, I learned so many things, especially mathematics. The first difficulty was English language in Mathematics. I cannot understand the problems as clear as Indonesian language. Time by time, this difficulties was not difficulties anymore for me. I can understand it easier that before. In SSE, I also taught mathematics to real students in Santa Fransiskus Asisi High School. I was nervous at that time, but it really great when my student said that he started to love mathematics because of me. He wanted me to be his teacher someday. It was really great experience that made me more love mathematics.

In conclusion, I learned not to judge something because everyone judges it. I have ever judged that mathematics is really difficult and not important in my life because everyone judges it. But, when I have experiences about it, I became more love it. Mathematics is not like a ghost or wild animal that may hurt you. For me, Mathematics is like an arrow when I get lost in this real life. I mean that I become confidence in facing real life because I love mathematics. Mathematics is a part of life. Everything in this life is all about mathematics.
