The Magic Words for Mathematics in My Journey

           Mathematics is when your brain and the people around you said you can do it, so you can solve it. It happened to me when I was in Elementary School. The story was when I was seven years old my family always asked for help to buy something in the market. I have to remember all of the material and account the money that have to suitable with the purchases. Especially, for my father that always asked for help to me. After I helped him, then he gave me money with requirement. It was if I can solve the mathematical problem about multiplication or division then I got money.

Miss.Computer was calling my father to me.  That words that motivate me to learn mathematics better. That was the magic words for me to be study hard in learning mathematics. Next year, when I was eight years old my father was passed away. I was very sad because he was my everything. Fortunately, I’m still have my family and my uncle that called me same like my father “Miss. Computer”. It made me re-excited to learn . I thought if I cannot solve mathematics problem from whom, it made me shame. I have known that the magic words made me confidence to learn mathematics.

But, when I was in Junior High School I felt mathematics was not easy. I really difficult to learnt about the material. Fortunately, my brother those two years older than me has been learning about that, so he explained to me again at home. I can easily to understand after he explained clearly to me. I thought, I cannot understand from explanation’s teacher because the condition in the class was very crowded and my teacher still continued the explanation. He never angry in the class, so it made majority of us was speaking in the classroom. Because of that I thought that mathematics was not fun. Besides that, my teacher seldom to gave us motivation at the beginning or the end of the class that mathematics is fun and easy. So, when I was in Junior High School I felt loss the new magic words from someone who smart in mathematics that supported me.

“Mathematics is easier” that was the sentence when I was in Senior High School. My teacher always gave motivation to us before we learnt mathematics. He also very clearly and relax when gave explanation to us. It made me and my friend came up to study hard and learnt together. Then, he has charisma that different with the other my teachers’ mathematics. I like his way in teaching mathematics, so that’s why I want to try to be mathematics teacher is and I have to choose Mathematics Education.

From my experience when I was seven years old until seventeen years old I know that motivation is very important for me. It made me confidence and I felt I can do it. So, when I lulus from Senior High School I’m confused where I will to be continue my studies is. Sampoerna School of Education (SSE) or the other University that I had to chose.  Finally, I be came to my teacher in Junior High School because I was very near with them. I want to be a student in SSE, but I thought it very difficult. Then, my teacher said “You will not know until you try it. You have to try, so you know the result. I know you can do it. I trust you; it proved that you can be the best in Senior High School”. Because of that, after that I prepared document to selection in SSE.

My family also supported me, especially my mother always prayed for me. When I told that I passed the first selection my mother was very happy, and so the next announcement. At the end of the selection I don’t believe that I accepted to be a student in SSE. From my journey I know that magic words are very important for me. In SSE I met with my teachers that always motivated me and my friends.  So, my friends that always have great enthusiasm and support me. In this campus we learnt together and each of us always give support because we are family. Now, I know that the magic words will never disappear as long as I am still in the midst of people who cared for me.
