PM Project “Physics Mathematics”
Physics:
Standard Competence: Describing the basic fundamental mechanics of motion, force, work, and energy and its application in real life.
Mathematics:
Standard Competence: Using the concept of arithmetic operations and properties of numbers, comparison, exponent number, social arithmetic, number sequence, and its use in solving problem.
Basic Competence: Using direct and indirect proportion in solving problem.
Objectives:
1. Students are able to understand the concept of velocity and its application in real life.
2. Students are able to understand the concept of direct and indirect proportion and its application in real life.
Description:
This project will be assessed by two subject which are physics and mathematics. you will work in group consist of 5 students. The report must be submitted on Monday, March 26th 2012.
Tools:
1. Measurement tape
2. Stopwatch
3. A bicycle
Procedures:
1. A student measures the perimeter of the field at your school using measurement tape.
2. Two students go arround the field for 5 times by bicycle alternately.
3. A student takes a note how long each of his friend needs to go arround the field using stopwatch.
4. A student determines the velocity of each friend in going arround the field
Task:
1. What is the velocity of first students?
2. What is the velovity of second student?
3. How long does the first student need to go to the bus terminal (the distance from school to the bus terminal was 400 m)
a. Physics solution: Use the concept of velocity to solve this problem!
b. Mathematics Solution: Determine what kind of proportion (direct or indirect) to solve this problem and give your reason!
4. If the first student needed 15 minutes for cycling from school to national library, how long does the second student need for cycling from school to national library?
Analysis Questions:
1. When do we have to use direct and direct proportion concept in solving the problem?
Conclusion
1. Compare the differences between physics and mathematics solution!
2. What is the conclusion that you can get from this activity?
