Mathematics is our environment
Since children, I want to become a teacher. I felt the profession of teacher was amazing. I can help other people when they have difficult in lesson and also help them become smart people. But, in here I got confuse, what is teacher’s subject that I want to be in that time?
When I was in elementary school, I often played “teacher” with my friends and my young sister. I was often role as a teacher in this game. I was happy played with them. I could teach them if they have difficult in lesson, especially for mathematics lesson. Because, I confident to teach and them enough in mathematics lesson. But, I also didn’t be afraid and shy to ask my family if I got confuse. Actually, the mathematics topic that we played was simple, only about accounting and sometime related with color and picture. I always did the best to share my knowledge for them, until they could understand about the lesson. I was very happy when I could help them. That felt same like when I could understand what teacher’s explained in the class to me. Those things made me more want to become a teacher, especially mathematics teacher.
My environment have made me more like mathematics, moreover my cousin was smart in mathematics. When I have difficult to do exercise, I could ask their helping to teach me. I was diligent to learn about mathematics, did exercise of mathematics and diligent to asking surely, because of that I always get the good score. It was happened during in elementary school and junior high school.
During that time I often the nice experiences with mathematics. I like mathematics, because I was not only can account. I often found that mathematics lesson relate with our life. Often, our activity relate with mathematics. For example, when my mother bought some oranges, I could use mathematics to divided orange like as fraction. My family was often taught mathematics related by the shape or something that relate with our environment.
Actually in my life doesn’t always have the good experiences in learning about mathematics. I began have difficult to understand about mathematics lesson when I was at Senior high school. I felt my skill of mathematics didn’t best before. Sometime, I was despite when I got misunderstand about some mathematics topic. This was because I am less diligent in doing exercises of mathematics, so made me need more time to already understand. Although my skill of mathematics was decreasing and I often have difficult, I am still like mathematics lesson.
Now, I am studying in Sampoerna School of Education in mathematics education major. By the time I have more difficult to understand mathematics lesson, moreover in my campus the problem of mathematics show in English language and relate with real life. Something new experience in my life. I have difficult to understand the meaning of topic or problem in mathematics, because my English is not very well. I need more time to understand about it. Although I have learned, I am still got confuse when did mathematics exam. Because of that I got the bad score, and I can’t teach my friends in the collage about mathematics. Its different when I was in elementary and Junior high school.
Although I fond difficult in theoretic way, I have been getting new taught to more understand the concept in mathematics lesson. Instead of that, I have been learning about pedagogical in mathematics context and how to make students perception about mathematics became a lesson that fun and doesn’t scare lesson. By the time, learning mathematics In SSE has been teaching us to make a creative teacher.
Now, my perception about mathematics same with me was child. I am still feeling that mathematics is a fun lesson if we can relate that subject with our environment. It doesn’t lesson that we should be afraid, although sometime I can’t understand. I hope I can share my knowledge in the content and pedagogical way about mathematics to made my students comfortable with mathematics lesson and surely with me.
