Reflection of Teaching Assistant (SEP) at SMAN 82 Jakarta

            On April 2^nd 2012, I began school experience at SMAN 82 Jakarta. In this semester, I should be observer in the first week and be teacher assistant in the second week. In the first week, I observed two classes, X2 and X4. I observed mathematics class which learnt about trigonometry.

Based on my observation, I saw that the both class have same characteristics. The students are bit noisy when the learning activity begins and some of them still use their hand phone when the teacher explains the material. Teacher used direct interaction when explain the material. It made some students bored and chosen to chat with their friend or playing games in their hand phone. From the observation, my friend and I tried to made a lesson plan with different method of learning and we used it when do teaching assistant.

Finally, the second weeks came. It was time to be teacher assistant. X4 was the first class when I did teaching assistant and logic as the topic. I gave them pre test and post test, lecture discussion and round robin. Many activities made me afraid because the time is limited. When I did learning activities, I saw that the students interested because I used PPT and gave them different method when explain the materials. At the end of learning, I was happy because my fear did not happen. After the activities, my mentor teacher gave me feedback. She said that the first teaching is good but need some improvement when explain the materials.

At the second class, X2, my friend and I used a video to explain the material. I saw the students were more excited than students before. I really enjoy when teaching assistant did. I was also happy because we have effective time when did learning activities. The good feedback came from my mentor teacher. She said that our lesson had improvement.

My experiences when did school experience program is important to me. It made me understand that to be a good teacher needs time and skill. From school experience program, I learnt how to explain the material and applied my skill when conduct a lesson. School experience program also gave opportunity to me to be a teacher in school. I hope my experiences can improve my teaching skill so in the future I will be a good teacher.
