“Who wants to be a millionaire?” This question remembering me to one of the quiz in the television recently years ago. But the question for me as my reflection is, “What do you want to be?” maybe I will answer, “Yes, I want to be a millionaire”. But I wouldn’t answer it as my dream, because I will answer, “I want to be a teacher. A mathematics teacher”
Honestly, I never think to be a teacher, especially being a mathematics teacher. Similarly like the children generally, I have some dreams until I’m in Senior High School actually, like want to be a doctor, a banker, a teacher, etc. I want to be a doctor until I’m in Junior High School. It can be appearing in my mind because I think I love science and mathematics. When I’m in Senior High School, my dreams not only want to be a doctor, but also want to be a banker because I begin to love a number. Although I like the science subject.
Unfortunately, my dream enthusiastically was a banker defeated with my new dream is being a teacher. It was inspirited by my biology teacher in Senior High School. Not only by her, my mathematics teachers when I’m in Senior High School also inspiring me be a teacher, especially being a mathematics teacher.
For youth information when I’m in Senior High School, my mathematics teacher in the first grade is Mr. F and in the third grade is Mr. Z. They are really enjoyable, friendly, creative, and clearly when they are explaining the materials. Mrs. E as my mathematics teacher in the second grade also inspiring me. She really clearly, carefully, discipline, but not strict when she is teaching and explaining the materials. Their characters that provoke me so that eventually I want to be a teacher.
Actually, so far sometimes I’m still in doubt about my decision to be a mathematics teacher. Why I feel like that? Since I’m in Elementary School until High School, I feel my interest to mathematics is really nice. It can be seen by my score and feeling when I’m facing a mathematics subject. Not only that, I also feel I have an understanding deeper than the others. But now, when I’m in Sampoerna School of Education (SSE) for my Bachelor Degree Program in Mathematics Department sometimes I feel I’m nothing if I’m compare my mathematics understanding with the others. When I’m facing my doubtfulness toward my mathematics understanding, at that moment SSE also help me to be a new generation a teacher, not only merely be a teacher but will be an educator. But I think not only about the understanding, but also about attitude, cognitive and the character are important to be an educators.
