Autobiography about Mathematics

Mathematics is near but sometime it is as a far and unfamiliar thing in our mind. I said this one because it happened in elementary school. In my mind, Mathematics is complicated one by using many formulas. I did not understand what the functions of formulas are. Moreover my teacher’s teaching style made me bored and uninterested to understand more. He taught us like a situation in military. We not allowed to ask everything and to say anything when he talked in front of the class to explain of Mathematics. Instead, we always made noise and never sat in much time to do the exercise by self.
I had ever won’t to study about mathematics in home except have a homework. I am the first child in my home so I always asked to my parent if I had homework. They were teaching me about mathematics by using pictures or tools around us. For example, “Broom Stick” is one tool to understand about counting. Another example is visualization the question by using the picture to represent the problem. Besides it, my friend and I always made a Role Play like a Seller and a Buyer. Our rule like rules in a market that have to pay the thing with the price that seller said. In this playing, I learnt to count the price as directly. Because of my parent and friends made me understand for applying Mathematics’ function. In school was different, the atmosphere was not supporting but really make me confuse. And this was the one reason to give bad influence to my Mathematics score. I was hopeless to continue my study in my favorite school.
Fortunately, how be thankful I am to Allah SWT because I enroll in my favorite school. On there, I met the Mathematics teacher that made me interest of Mathematics when I was in Junior High School in the 7th grade. In the first meeting, she said to us to introduce our self with one by one. After that She was using a game to start learn about Math. It is a good idea to make us felt comfort about Mathematics because we comfort with the teacher first. I had been learnt Mathematics independently by my self because it has internal motivation. In the 9th grade, I got the reinforcement from my parent and aunty because my score in National Examination or Ujian Nasional (UN) for Mathematics were very good. I am happy because that was my best effort.
And then I continued my study in the new school of Senior High School at North Bekasi, we as a second intake there. My Mathematic teacher was so friendly, good to explain and smart. When the mathematics subject schedule comes I was happy to learn it. She made the class’ atmosphere happy and focus to our discussion about. One day, I had chosen to follow Mathematics Olympiad which has to study deeply about model mathematics in Olympiad standard. Because of the Olympiad make a curious me about Mathematics. But my motivation was decreasing because some other teacher always reminded us about UN and the probability that would happened. The teacher changed in the 12th grade and our purpose to study about Math only to face UN.
In SSE, I found many inspiring lecturer and great experience since I have been studying about Mathematics and the other subjects. The educational issue is complicated because not only the teacher that has a big role but the people around student has a big role too. To be a professional educator not only in the class but also in out the class. I want give my student a special experience in every step to learn Math by happy experience but meaningful by the role play, interaction to the other, come to the real situation like market, etc. I want to change the bad perception about study Math. I want they feel the process to learn Math is useful and meaningful.
